Randal Stephenson is a Senior Managing Director and Head of Mergers, Acquisitions and Corporate Advisory at Pali Capital, Inc. Randal is a nationally recognized M&A expert with over nineteen years' experience, having completed over 150 investment and M&A advisory transactions valued at approximately USD 30 billion in the U.S., Asia, Europe, and Latin America. Randal's transaction experience encompasses distressed and turnaround principal investment, "bulge bracket" investment banking advisory to the world's largest corporations, and "middle market" M&A advisory involving distressed, special situation, and bankruptcy-related transactions.
Prior to Pali, Randal was Head of the Middle Market & Acquisitions Group and Head of Distressed & Special Situations Advisory at CIT. Prior to CIT, Randal was a Managing Director in the Mergers & Acquisitions Group at Jefferies & Company, where he oversaw the Exclusive Sales & Divestitures and Distressed Restructuring-Related M&A Advisory practices.
Randal came to Jefferies from Merrill Lynch & Co., where he was a Director and Head of the New York office of Merrill's Middle Market Mergers & Acquisitions Group, which became one of the world's largest middle-market investment banking platforms. Prior to Merrill, Randal worked at the well-known advisory boutique Wolfensohn & Co. where he was a Principal and Co-Head of the Asian Cross-Border M&A Advisory practice, and later when the firm was sold to Bankers Trust / Deutsche Bank, he was a senior mergers and acquisitions banker focused on the industrial and consumer sectors.
Before becoming an investment banker, Randal was a co-founder and managing principal of Enprotech Corps, the captive distressed investment platform of the Japanese conglomerate Itochu Corporation. At Enprotech Randal and his partners amassed over $1.0 billion in distressed assets from a plan on paper. Randal began his professional career as a bankruptcy and M&A lawyer with the Boston law firm of Choate, Hall & Stewart.
Randal received his BA in economics from the University of Michigan, his J.D. (with distinction) from Boston College Law School (where he was editor of the law review), and his MBA from Harvard Business School. Randal is a member of the Turnaround Management Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Bars of Massachusetts and New York.
